It's worse than you think. Not all the time and not as bad for some people than others, but junk food binges drive your moods and health down (into the gutter sometimes).
When do people suffer? Anytime, it's possible, but sugary junk food binges may be at the heart of your moodiness, depression, anxiety or overwhelm during the commonly occurring celebrations or holidays you entertain throughout the year - including your birthday.
It's not always you, sometimes it's your food.
"Your mood helps you be resourceful"
We all like to be resourceful.
It's not that you are bad, lazy or just a moody, anxious and sad person...
you are capable of much more than this and have many more gifts than these traits to give.
It may be your food.
One thing that a sugar or junk food overdose can do is steel your resourcefulness.
A Sugar-tooth Food Craving:
Sugary foods often takes the place of healthy foods that will give you needed Zinc, Selenium and B Vitamins for a better balanced mood.
B Vitamins are the nerve calming vitamins that are found naturally in animal products such as fish, poultry, meat, eggs, or dairy. Most often, when we are eating lots of sugar, we are still trying to be "good" and keeping our portions maintained in our meals. Therefore, we often skimp on the healthy vitamin-rich foods that we need to regulate our mood and help us function at our best daily.
Dr. Mike Roussell tells us in a 2013 article published in Shape magazine, that it's not that sugar directly depletes the body of B vitamins, but that because of any increase in sugary foods we eat, we have to get more of these vitamins in our diet to metabolize the sugars.
The compounding affect of sugar is that lots of sugar in your blood will compete or push away vitamin C from your cells and result in a decreased antioxidant capacity in some cell types. That means your cells will be more susceptible to aging and disease, infection, decreased healing, pain and tissue breakdown.
Also, when you begin down the pathway of eating more sugar (learn how to break it in the video below), you will often eat less foods with Zinc as well. Zinc helps regulate your blood sugar. It's affect has been called "impressive" in what it can do to help those with diabetes and maybe even prevent diabetes in the first place. For foods high in Zinc, read here.
If you're mood is affected, zinc, magnesium, and more clean and lean protein can help.
Magnesium is low in our foods. It can be found in leafy greens, nuts and supplements. If your muscles are feeling jumpy and stiff or you are constipated, you have a few signs that you might be Magnesium deficient.
Bottom line, you will be more miserable with disease process start-ups and infections on top of a bad mood through your food choices.
A Salty-tooth Food Craving:
If sugar is not your thing, you may know that you have a salty-tooth junk food craving.
That is, you crave chips, salty snacks and flavorful foods like flavored nuts, pizza and savory bacon or cheese meals.
How do these junk foods rob you of your health, mind and resourcefulness?
How it happens is usually an after-your-meal thing. That is, you eat this big fatty meal (which may also include lots of carbs within it - like Mac 'n Cheese, burgers, sandwiches loaded with fatty meats and big loaves of breads) and then your pancreas and liver need to digest everything. So much more so than healthy foods that it saps all your energy and you want to take a nap.
Ever want to take a nap after a meal?
The long term negative affects of these food choices are often wide and deep and a multitude of different disease processes or mood disorders can sprout from eating this way.
Net affect is you are eating to be moody, overweight, tired and quickly aging. Kids are hooked on eating this way, you may be hooked and it's not helpful to you or those around you.
